No. There is currently no government licensing requirement for medical office assistant, medical receptionist, billing clerk, or hospital unit clerk roles in Canada.
Employers typically look for candidates who understand healthcare workflows and have experience using electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Our training focuses on helping learners build practical digital health workflow experience that can be applied in clinics and hospitals.

Choice EMR Learning simulation systems are used by colleges and healthcare training programs across Canada to help students gain practical experience before entering the healthcare workforce.
The training focuses on real clinical workflows, including patient registration, scheduling, documentation, and billing. These are the core skills employers expect when hiring administrative staff for healthcare settings.

Our training includes hands-on simulation environments using:

  • Accuro EMR – commonly used in Canadian medical clinics
  • Jane App – widely used in allied health clinics such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy
  • Choice EHR – a hospital-style electronic health record environment used for Unit Clerk workflow training

Choice EMR Learning is also a preferred education service provider for Accuro EMR, one of the electronic medical record systems used in Canadian clinics.

Yes. The training is simulation-based, meaning learners work directly inside a practice EMR or EHR environment completing tasks such as:

  • patient registration
  • appointment scheduling
  • chart documentation
  • physician billing
  • integrated clinic workflows

This allows learners to gain real workflow experience they can reference on their resume and during interviews.

Many learners tell us that having hands-on EMR and EHR workflow experience helps them interview more confidently and speak clearly about how clinics and hospitals operate.

Being able to describe how patient registration, scheduling, charting, and billing workflows work in practice can help applicants demonstrate relevant knowledge during interviews.

Learners commonly take the training when preparing for roles such as:

  • Medical Office Assistant (MOA)
  • Medical Receptionist
  • Clinic Administrator
  • Medical Billing Clerk
  • Hospital Unit Clerk

The training focuses on digital healthcare workflows used in clinics and hospitals.

Peer Review Crest

Instructor-Audited Survey Results

As part of our ongoing quality assurance, Choice EMR Learning now conducts an annual independent instructor audit of all student and faculty survey outcomes across our EMR and EHR training programs.

Each year, instructors volunteer as reviewers to assess and provide feedback on:

  • Reported satisfaction levels and learning outcome data
  • Alignment between reported outcomes and real classroom performance
  • Opportunities to enhance curriculum and student experience

Their feedback helps verify that our published results accurately reflect classroom realities and supports continuous improvements to our simulations, assessments, and instructor resources.

This additional layer of external validation strengthens academic credibility and provides colleges with increased confidence in the reliability, consistency, and effectiveness of our training programs.

Choice EMR Learning does not offer formal job placement services.

However, we provide guidance on how learners can present their EMR and EHR simulation experience on their resume and in interviews when applying for healthcare administrative roles.

Yes. Our training approach focuses on practical digital health skills and real clinical workflows, which align with workforce readiness priorities emphasized by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.

These skills help learners build familiarity with the technology and processes used in modern healthcare environments.

Choice EMR Learning is currently developing a formal EMR competency credential, influenced by industry members and aligned with the workflows used in modern healthcare environments.

The goal of this credential is to help validate practical EMR workflow knowledge and support workforce readiness in digital healthcare.

Most self-paced courses can be completed within 2–6 weeks, depending on how quickly learners move through the modules.

Our Advanced OHIP Billing Training is a 4-week instructor-led course focused specifically on Ontario physician billing workflows.
